Why Local Support Matters More Than Ever

Back homeNewsWhy Local Support Matters
Grants Applications

With our latest Health and Wellbeing Grants awarded, we've been reflecting on the power of local support and the difference it continues to make across our communities.

This year we are once again privileged to fund organisations that are improving lives, tackling local challenges, and creating opportunities for people to thrive. This year's grantees are no exception. From preventative health initiatives and community spaces to end-of-life care and wellbeing programmes, these projects are responding directly to the needs of local people.

But their work also highlights an important question. Why does local support matter more than ever?

Communities Know Their Communities

National programmes and large-scale initiatives play an important role, but local organisations often have the deepest understanding of the challenges facing the people they serve.

They know where support is needed most. They understand the barriers people face. They can adapt quickly and build trusted relationships that make a lasting difference.

When funding stays local, it allows these organisations to continue delivering services that are tailored to the unique needs of their communities.

Demand Is Growing

Across the charitable sector, many organisations are facing increasing demand for their services. Rising living costs, pressures on health services, social isolation, and mental wellbeing challenges are affecting people of all ages.

At the same time, many charities are navigating funding pressures of their own.

This means local support is not just valuable, it is essential.

Every donation, fundraising event, and grant helps community organisations continue providing support when people need it most.

Creating Lasting Impact

One of the most powerful aspects of local giving is the ripple effect it creates.

When local people support local causes, the impact is often felt far beyond a single project. Stronger community groups lead to stronger social connections, improved wellbeing, greater opportunities, and more resilient communities.

The benefits stay close to home, helping neighbours, families, friends, and future generations.

What This Means for Our Charity

As a grant-making charity, our role is to connect generosity with local need.

We are fortunate to work alongside donors, businesses, community groups, and supporters who share our commitment to improving lives across our area. Their generosity enables us to invest in projects that might otherwise struggle to access the funding they need.

Every grant awarded represents more than financial support. It represents confidence in local organisations, belief in community-led solutions, and a shared commitment to creating positive change.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate our newest grantees, we are also celebrating everyone who makes this work possible.

Local support has always mattered. Today, as communities face evolving challenges and increasing pressures, it matters more than ever.

Together, we can continue investing in the organisations, initiatives, and people that make our communities stronger, healthier, and more connected.

Thank you to everyone who supports our work and helps us make a difference where it matters most and congratulations to our newest grantees:
